As some of you know, I have been using a HTC-Universal (Actually Imate-Jasjar) for some time. At a stage, I tried various flavours of Linux on it including openmoko etc. It turned out that the guys have not put so much into development, and so I unfortunately hed to fall back on Windows Mobile 5. Recently, I upgraded and got a shiny HTC Touch Pro2, or Rhodium as some people call it. I sat with the daunting task of moving my gazillion messages and contacts to the new phone.

Don't think M$ would make it easy. Especially if you are not a windows user. I tried installing the 60 day trial of Outlook distress and running activesync, because Activesync does not allow you to backup the stupid files without installing Ooutlook?! The problem is, it just did not work. I kept on getting these weird errors when I tried to sync to my old Universal and there was simply no way I could get the flippen data off it in the way I wanted it.

Thank God for http://www.forum.xda-developers.com!

They have a simple little program called PIM Backup.

Here's the link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=299705

The great thing is, I did not even have to install it. Nor does it make me dependant on a stupid prorpierty email program.

Now I'm just waiting fot the guys to get the Google Android out on the Touch Pro2, then I am done with Windows Mobile!

Happy HAcking.
